test bandwidth?

is there a way that i can test bandwidth from say my computer to my main router? theres another router in between, thats why im wondering. both routers have gigabit lan ports, im just not sure it applys to the wan port, i'm guessing it should, just want to be sure

you could use SCP to send a file between 2 computers and see how fast it goes. Or if you have a web server running try downloading something from it.

This is a good idea but I would send from /dev/zero on the source pc to /dev/null on the destination pc. And then the other way around big_smile . This should be able to saturate the connection and tell you the speed limit (assuming drivers and cpu overhead do not limit the speed first).
