Re: soft resetting link

Would seem to be ATA-related... something to do with your drive(s), perhaps?

Re: soft resetting link

Check the cables, maybe a cable is getting loose or broken (if you insert and remove it often) .... Check if the disk makes a noise like it is turning off and then back on during normal usage, if so I would say to try with another power supply ... wild guess though.

I've seen one of my HDs sort of malfunction inside an external box and work perfectly inside my pc. The culprit was the power supply of the external box as far as I could tell ... the 5V rail voltage was all over the place ... 4.5V 5V 5.xV and when it did that the HD started to act strangely.

Re: soft resetting link

That could be difficult since it's in a laptop wink

I do have a IDE-USB adaptor that supports 2.5" drive so I might pull it out and run it on that on my desktop and see if I get similar errors...

Re: soft resetting link

Oh ... laptop ... I've seen reports of people having problems with the hard disk .... the culprit was the poor design of the socket/plug/mechanical interface between the HD and the motherboard.
Taking the disk out and inserting it again seemed to solve the problem for a while. I can't remember the brand/model of the affected laptops.

Googling a bit showed me this:

Your problem may be something else different too.

Yeah, I can Google. Didn't find anything particularly useful though...

Thanks ROOKIE, I'll have a play with reseating the hard drive smile

If it's failing, back it up. Now.

Re: soft resetting link

It doesn't appear to have. Quite honestly I haven't even got round to reseating the drive yet, it's still going though. I have a spare on standby too JIC. Sorry I can't be more useful.
