ath5k master mode

Hi everyone,

I'm having major issues with putting my Atheros AR242x (50007EG, Abit Airpace PCI-Express) card into master mode. I have searched high and low and cannot find a definitive answer to if it is or isn't possible. When I try and put it into master mode I get:

[jack@mediaserver examples]$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 mode master
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.

Is there anyway round this or do I need to install some extra packages (I already have hostap installed).

Re: ath5k master mode

Hi,

you cannot use iwconfig to put your card in master mode (that's a mac80211 "limitation", well it's not a limitation but a feature wink)
you can use hostapd to put your card in master mode
maybe the small tool "iw" can also set it into master mode - but I'm not sure about that

Re: ath5k master mode

the same problem here, hostapd does not wont to put
02:06.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01)
into master mode
