Hello guys,
just an idea - is it possible to be always online with your ICQ account even when your local pc with your local client turns off?
I thought it might be possible to use a client such as centericq on a webserver that redirects the messages you get to your pc during your machine was shutdown.
The idea - I have many contacts in my buddylist and telling all what/where I'm doing is simply too much effort. so if everyone is able to read my status message everytime would be the best solution

A friend of mine does this with centerim. He has it running on a vhost inside screen. When you're home you just ssh into the server and attach the screen session.

Ah that sounds nice.
But a redirection of the messages to a local client isn't possible?
That would be the best way that you not even have to access the server.

I wouldn't know how and I'd guess it's not that easy.

I have not used ICQ directly for years -- but the setup you have described is quite easy to achieve in XMPP with ICQ transport. The trick is to set negative priority for the remote, text client; so, the client will be visible, with your chosen status, XMPP server will accept the messages from ICQ one, but will not send messages to the client, just queue them instead; they will be sent when client with non-negative priority will show. Caveats: depending on XMPP server queue length, you may lose some of messages, and transports are not meant to be full replacement of original client, so you may find some functionality missing.
