Promiscuous mode not showing full tcp stream

I am experiencing some rather odd behavior on my new eee pc 1000HA. The wireless card is:

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR242x 802.11abg Wireless PCI Express Adapter (rev 01)

I am using the ath5k module in kernel 2.6.29.

For this test I made a wireless network open without any sort of encryption. When I join the network and put the card into promiscuous mode with tcpdump I only see packets incoming to other wireless hosts(packets sent from the gateway to the client). The outbound packets sent by other wireless hosts are not seen. This is limiting me to only observe responses in a tcp connection and not the whole stream. Has anyone else experienced this and have a solution? Thanks.

Are you sure that your model Wireless adapter supports promiscious mode? Many factory don't, i had to get an external modem that supported promiscious mode for mine.

Well I can put the interface into promiscuous mode. And like I said I can see some of the traffic;  the incoming to clients but not their outgoing packets. I'm thinking it might be some limitation of the ath5k driver.
