Safe to upgrade kernel?

Today when I did a pacman -Syu I got an option of upgrading to kernel2.6.30 and nvidia185.x.x.x
In this forum I found a lot of people complaining about crashes with the new kernel. Is it safe to upgrade the kernel at this point or wait until things get stable? I don't have my Testing repo on, jjust the normal ones.I'm just confused abt what to do.

Re: Safe to upgrade kernel?

It's up to you. There's always a risk whenever you upgrade packages, slightly more so when doing the kernel.

Read some of the other issues people are having and see if they might apply to you.
Yes, they might apply to me: wait a few days or so before upgrading.
No, the issues don't seem to apply to me: go for it.

Of course, if no one upgrades and faces the breakages, they'll never get fixed...

Re: Safe to upgrade kernel?

No only thing I noticed was that on my x86_64 install it failed to run mkinitcpio (i just did it manually) but my i686 installed the kernel fine.
But I haven't noticed any crashes or anything like that.

Re: Safe to upgrade kernel?

Thanks fukawi2. I went ahead and did a full system upgrade. Everyhing works fine.
1 thing though, while booting [during starting up of daemons] I get an error message saying:

unkwown hardware HDA-Intel" "Realtek ALC662 rev1" "HDA:10ec0662" "0x1565" "0x820f" Hardware is initialized using a guess method

However, my sound works fine! My video works fine! Any ideas?
