For a while now, I get a popup at boot telling me that wicd needs the root password to start.
After clicking "ignore", I get an error saying that wicd could not connect to dbus.
I do NOT have wicd in my DAEMONS array, it's only installed as a backup in case the other network handlers break. I use KDM + KDE4.
So far, only uninstalling wicd helps.. Anybody else experiencing this?

wicd puts a file in /etc/xdg/autostart/ for the tray icon.
Desktop manager like gnome starts automatically the content of /etc/xdg/autostart, you should disable it (in gnome System -> Settings -> Startup Applications)

hm i just tried replicating the old (or what i think was the old) behavior, in which wicd-client would start only when wicd was actually enabled in DAEMONS.
no deal..
i'm pretty sure it worked like that though.. maybe it was handled by gdm? or am i completely off on this, did wicd-client always autostart even if not in DAEMONS?

I experience the same behavior when I disable wicd in rc.conf.

Like tuxce said, you must disable it manually. In Gnome System -> Settings -> Startup Applications. It's the same behavior like beagle for example. It starsts automatically because it installs a file in /etc/xdg/autostart, too. So, disable it manually in the system settings of Gnome or your desktop you use.
