/etc/hosts & connection speed issue

I grabbed a list of sites to put in my /etc/hosts file from here: http://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/  and now when I'm surfing in Firefox it always takes the range of 3-5-10 seconds to load a site as it's always hanging a bit on "Looking up site.com...". This is not for all sites, but it does happen for many. Appreciate any tips on how to solve/workaround this...

TIA smile

Re: /etc/hosts & connection speed issue

1. Does the speed return to normal if you take out those entries?
2. Have you disabled ipV6?
3. Did you accidently overwrite your default localhost entry?

Good luck!

Re: /etc/hosts & connection speed issue

I'm using this one http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Of course 127.0.0.1 needed to be "fixed" so it still points to the local machine and I don't see that problem.
