Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

Morning,

Not sure where to look or what to check to fix this one hmm

I never ever had problem with my wifi connexion until "pacman -Syu" yesterday, which was btw a major one as I haven't done it regularly...

From time to time, my wifi connexion just hangs up/dies and I either needs to restart or to switch to a wired one.

Here is my dmesg output but I am not sure if it can help much hmm

Any idea on what to check? If you require more information, just let me know what.

Thanks

Re: Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

Try disabling ipv6. In your /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf put

alias net-pf off

Hope that helps.

Re: Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

erm, it does not help sad

Still the weird behavior and I noticed that my connexion speed is switching from 1Mb/s to 60Mb/s very often and randomly... Is there a way to fix it at 54Mb/s?

I wonder if it is my Wifi N laptop and router that my be causing the problem sad

Thanks
Ludo

According to the wiki it should say:

alias net-pf-10 off

Re: Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

ok, so after a week with ipv6 blacklisted and not loading thanks to the above line, I can still say that my wifi connexion is poor since moving to 2.6.30 sad

My connexion is @ 60Mbps and then it drops to 1Mbps for a while and then back up... I basically need to use the eth connexion as I can't work reliably with the wifi anymore sad

Any idea on what cause this choppy connexion?

Thanks
Ludo

Re: Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

what is your wireless card/driver? i have a iwl4965 driver and am having issues with it. it worked perfectly on the live cd, and now i can see other networks but the ip times out with both dhclient and dhcpcd.

Does it drop to 1Mbps when you are doing downloads or when it is idling?

It happens randomly. I can be downloading (i.e. pacman -Syu) when it freezes for a while (download stops for few minutes and sometimes restart) or I can be on msn chatting with little traffic.
btw, when it drops to 1Mbps, it is like having no connexion at all. Because no Internet traffic is possible, not even very slowly sad

Re: Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

Ok, then it is not a question of connection speed dropping when the connection is idle.
Some drivers used to do that but it wouldn't affect normal network usage (connection speed would go up as soon as there was enough network activity), ath5k used to do this and it was not a bug but in your case it seems to be.

Have you checked to see if anyone is using the same wireless channel (even if they are using an hidden essid) or change the wireless channel you are using, if you can that is.
Also is anyone using bluetooth devices nearby? It shouldn't conflict because bluetooth should avoid the used wireless channels but who knows.

If you have the chance, try with another wireless n router and wireless g routers to try to determine if it is a problem with the drivers or hardware compatibility.

I have got the same problem since moving to 2.6.30
I have a iwl4965 driver. I have tried to change the wireless channel, but it does not help

Re: Wifi connection behaving weirdly since major system upgrade...

still the same problem for me. No one on the same wifi channel, and several kernel upgrades later my wifi is still choppy so I am stuck on ETH for the time being sad

Did anyone find a solution?

Same here with ipw2200. *sigh*
