Slow ADSL after a while

I have set up a router following the Wiki guide (shorewall, dnsmasq etc) with a USB speedtouch modem and it works fine most of the time. However, after around 12 hours the shared internet access slows on all computers (20 seconds+ to open google.com). Pinging somewhere remote shows some dropped packets (but otherwise normal RTTs). The problem is also present on the router itself. LAN traffic is unaffected and a reboot fixes the problem. CPU time isn't maxed and memory usage is low. I don't think the problem is shorewall because it isn't logging any DROPs and it works fine for the first 12 hours.

Any ideas? It's annoying having to reset my router twice a day...

Hello e1fjl!

Is it a fresh archlinux install? Did it work for you normally, earlier ?

Re: Slow ADSL after a while

Might be some bug with the modem firmware .... also usb is not the best of things to use for networking I believe.

Give another modem a try if you can to determine if the problem is the modem or your setup.
