Donate after milestone posts...

So I am pretty new to Arch, but am knocked over by the distro, the people that support it and the community here. When I hit 100 posts today, I thought it would be nice to acknowledge that in some way -- so I made a small donation.

It's a way of thanking all the people who give up their time to make this distro great: developers, package maintainers, moderators, TUs and all of the people who help out each other here.

If you hit a milestone post (and that could mean 20 or it could mean 2000: whatever the number, if it matters to you) perhaps you could add to this thread by kicking in something to ensure that Arch grows from strength to strength.

The current economic climate means that we should all value even more the time and effort that people give up to make Arch the least obsolete distro...

Go on: you know you want to!

#edit for clarity: donating money is only one option: filing bugs, helping out on the boards or irc, contributing patches, editing or adding to the wiki are all critical to the health of Arch. If, however, you are in a position to be able to make a modest financial contribution, then that helps too...

Great idea; when I next have spare money whilst hitting a milestone post I'll be sure to donate something smile

Re: Donate after milestone posts...

Excellent idea... I've donated before, but I'll donate again when my posts hit my birth year wink

Remember folks, you don't have to have a Paypal account to donate -- when it asks for the amount and to sign in with your username and password, there's a sneaky little link to the left that let you just use your credit card without creating an account smile

Re: Donate after milestone posts...

Hahah! Yes, you should. 700 is nice and round. Not as round at 1000, or 100000, but it's close enough! big_smile

I think I should at least get a t-shirt for the $1,000,000 don't you think? Dusty? I was wondering if anyone would notice that tongue

While I value the donations made by some, I'm strongly opposed to making it an honorary token on the forums. There's plenty people using Arch who can barely make ends meet at the end of the month. Linux, imho, transcends differences between people like religion, political beliefs, color of skin and paycheck.

Perhaps you could mention it in your signature with a link to the donate page, as Misfit138 has done. wink

Strongly object to any round numbers not being in base 2.

Call yourselves geeks... Honestly. roll

I actually did this myself.  It's a nice idea imo.

I agree! Donors are already listed on the arch donor page. I don't think it's needed in the forums.
But posts like these are good because they remind people to donate something.

My way of donating: I buy sometimes on ebay, and I top-up my paypal account by bank transfer. I always top-up a bit too much, and after my purchase I donate the rest.

Re: Donate after milestone posts...

I donated a month or so ago. First distro I ever donated to - I never really thought about it much before with other distros, but Arch is so awesome I almost feel guilty running it for free (as in beer big_smile). It felt really good, I encourage everyone who can to try it at least once.

+1

I think some of the "guilt" (stronger word than I really wanted) came from the fact that I couldn't donate as much time as I would have liked. Hopefully that will change more in the future, but either way it's all good, whatever you can donate. If everyone donated money and no time, that might be just as bad as everyone donating time and no money. I think the important thing is to contribute however you can so we can give back to this great distro and help to ensure it always keeps going. smile

Your plastic money is nigh-worthless anyway. tongue

I think if I had to donate for every milestone post, bankruptcy would help me kick my forum addiction... unless lines of code are considered donations. wink
