I read the speeding up with dnsmasq wiki page and was interested in this software. Upon installation I was presented with the following:
==========================================================
IMPORTANT: Unless you want to run dnsmasq as root, you
must either enable CONFIG_SECURITY_CAPABILITIES in
your kernel or add capability to the MODULES array
in /etc/rc.conf.
For more details on configuring dnsmasq, visit:
http://www.thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/doc.html
==========================================================
I have no idea which module I need to modprobe. Two questions:
1) What is the advantage of having dnsmasq run as a non-root user?
2) What module do I need to modprobe to do it?

I don't really know, but according to this, the parameter is obsolete on kernel versions > 2.6.26. It doesn't seem to appear anymore in the config documentation for 2.6.30.
