I am following the nfsv4 howto here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NFSv4#Clients
My problem is that rpcbind fails to start:
yaro ~ $ sudo /etc/rc.d/rpcbind start
:: Starting rpcbind [FAIL]Any idea why rpcbind is not running? I rally wanna get NFS running and working.
Unfortunately it gives absolutely NO hint as to the problem it is having.

Check dmesg, /var/log/messages.log, possibly other logs in /var/log for any clues as to why it fails.

This has been an issue for me for a while. Exact same issue as OP (arch64, here). Also:
[vk@vk ~]$ grep -Ri rpcbind /var/log/
/var/log/pacman.log:[2009-12-21 01:06] installed rpcbind (0.2.0-1)
/var/log/auth.log.4:Jan 12 00:06:25 vk sudo: vk : TTY=pts/1 ; PWD=/home/vk ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/etc/rc.d/rpcbind restart
/var/log/auth.log.4:Jan 12 00:06:42 vk sudo: vk : TTY=pts/1 ; PWD=/home/vk ; USER=root ; COMMAND=/usr/bin/pacman -Qi rpcbind
Dmesg doesn't mention rpcbind at all. This thread is a bit old, but can someone help out?
