Re: [solved]Email-Client

Different people like different things in an email client, so the best approach is to try each one yourself and make up your own mind.  I personally like Thunderbird, Kmail, Claws, and Sylpheed, but do all my own mail by webmail only, now.

Re: [solved]Email-Client

Pick the first one from your list and use it.

If you don't like it, think why, then try subsequent ones from your list that have those features.

Re: [solved]Email-Client

For something fast, small and without dependencies on major DEs I'd recommend claws-mail. It was a fork of sylpheed, but now stands on it's own for quite some years, with a lot of plugins (stuff like using webkit for HTML mails) and still a lot lighter than something like Thunderbird.

This isn't Microsoft. We don't tell you what software you must use wink

Re: [solved]Email-Client

To me thunderbird is pretty much the only option because its the only one as far as i know that removes *deleted* mail from server and not just the usual keep or remove mail from server on sync which is pretty useless.

I want to use kmail, but i dont because it doesnt have the above and other features of thunderbird and because the configs under ~/.kde* make it a migration and upgrade nightmare.

Re: [solved]Email-Client

Another vote for claws-mail. big_smile

I like Thunderbird and the features it provides but I'm running a light system and I don't want the bloat. I'm running a custom stripped version of claws-mail and custom stripped version of claws-mail-extra-plugins (with only gtkhtml2_viewer plugin installed) and it is lightning fast. With that being said you should read about the different programs and pick the one that seems to fit you. Claws-Mail for example, doesn't do HTML messages without the use of the new webkit plugin* (although you can read them via the above mentioned gtkhtml2_viewer plugin). If that's a sticking point for you then go with one of the others until you find the one that does do it for you. With Linux it's a matter of reading and trying until you find something that suits you.

* Edited:
I just found out about the webkit plugin as I use a custom version of claws-mail.

In solving a problem of this sort, the grand thing is to be able to reason backward. That is a very useful accomplishment, and a very easy one, but people do not practice it much. In the everyday affairs of life it is more useful to reason forward, and so the other comes to be neglected. There are fifty who can reason synthetically for one who can reason analytically.  --Sherlock Holmes
