I would greatly appreciate any input on this issue.
Some reason when I installed Arch from the 2009.08 release it would always fail when I try to use dhcpcd eth0 or dhclient eth0.
It would say:
... Looking for carrier
... timed out.
I thought that it might be the cable or the router but I have tried multiple cables and routers in different locations, and it works fine when I run in Windows.
Nothing I have tried has worked, I have been searching for forums for a similar issue. I have had to use a wireless connection for everything internet based.

and it works fine when I run in Linux.
Is that what you meant? Or are you also using an OS from the Pacific Northwest?;)
Can you post the results of lspci -v ??

It got even wierder than I thought, I was about to give up on Arch, but I tried serveral other Distros, live cds and others to try to install them but on neither of them is dhcp successful.
I am not exactly sure what happened.

I'm puzzled. The Ethernet card and driver look reasonable.
Have you any idea what is wmaster0? Are you by chance configured to use a tunnel or bridge?
If so, you must use DHCP to assign an address to the tunnel, not the interface. You did not mention this, and it is something you must deliberately do. It also does not explain your problem with other live CDs. Other than that, I'm fast running out of airspeed, altitude and ideas, all at the same time.

Try giving it a static IP from the router.

I have tried giving it a static IP address and would get nothing. I wasn't able to even ping the host.
Also from what I have been reading up on there are problems with the SiS191 Gigabit card that ASUS uses, and it loads the SiS190 drivers but some reason they are not compatible. Even looking up fixes possibly to the kernel but no such luck yet.
Not exactly sure what the wmaster0 is, except that it is linked to my wireless card.
