What program to encrypt a partition

I'm looking for a good way to encrypt a partition (or directory). I used cryptoloop and dm-crypt in the past but I heard those tools are deprecated. Which tools are currently used for encryption? Thanks

For a partition: truecrypt! -> http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Truecrypt
for a directory, maybe ccrypt? haven't tried it that much though

Re: What program to encrypt a partition

cryptoloop is deprecated; dm-crypt is its intended successor, and can be used with more than one disk encryption method, LUKS among them.

I don't think there is any way to technically "encrypt" a directory (there would have to be built-in filesystem support for it), but you can easily create an encrypted filesystem image and mount it anywhere you please.

Yes, encrypting a file and mounting it as a loopback device is what I wanted.
Thanks for the help, I will try truecrypt, becuase LUKS seems to complicated for my needs.
