I now have a really old computer:
ZENITH NOTEBOOK, Z-NOTE 425Ln+, CPU 80486DX 25MHZ, 8MB RAM, 1.44MB FLOPPY DISK DRIVE, 200 MB HARD DISK DRIVE, 9 PIN SERIAL PORT, 25 PIN PRINTER PORT, PS/2 MOUSE PORT, VGA MONOCHROME VIDEO LCD, EXTERNAL VGA CONNECTOR, AC ADAPTER, WEIGHT 8 LBS,
If I had the external modem I could get on the internet, but even if I did have it I do not have dial up anymore.
if I got a serial to ethernet adapter would there be a way to configure the internet when I switch it to linux?

I don't believe such things exist... Serial is way slower than modern ethernet. Does the laptop have PCMCIA slot(s)?
