Connect to VPN

Hey,

I am just wondering if someone could give me some help on how to connect to a VPN.

I don't know the specifics about the server just the gateway, username and password. I can connect fine off XP with the details I have. I am just unsure of how to do it on arch.

Please just a quick run down if anyone has the time.

Re: Connect to VPN

There are various kinds of VPN - some more details would be useful. Maybe XP can give you some info when it's connected.

Re: Connect to VPN

You could also try asking your local friendly sysadmin how to connect from a linux-based system. The procedure may have been established already.

Re: Connect to VPN

Many places run Cisco VPN gateways.  If this is the kind of VPN you are trying to connect with, try using the "vpnc" package.  For other kinds of VPN servers, try using "openvpn".  There are GUIs and networkmanager plugins for both, if thats your thing.  So, if you can't get any information from your sysadmin, I'd just try both.

Re: Connect to VPN

yeah, i connect with cisco from my work PC and vpnc works great from my linux box.  be sure to google for 'pcf2vpnc' it's a python script to convert .PCF files (used by cisco vpn on windows) to the .conf files that vpnc wants.
