Compositing suspended on boot

When I start my computer compositing is not active.
I have to enable it by going to System Settings, Desktop Effects and then i have to press the Enable Compositing button.
Is there a way to enable this on boot?
I use KDE4.3, and the Catalyst Driver 9.10, 64 bit for a ATI Radeon HD4890.

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

That's weird - KDE should remember your settings. What happens when you start KDE via startx and then logout / login again? Are you settings also forgotten then, or only when you reboot?

@orphius1970: did you try my suggestion? What is the result?

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

when i use startx my settings are held. When i use kdm, they are not.

EDIT:
I just discovered that was a setting in my account.
I cleared out my home folder and logged back in and the compositing was working.
So I rebuilt my home folder.
Problem solved. Just wish i knew which file was causing the problem.

When I do this, the settings are forgotten.
When I go to the desktop settings I get the following screen.
before.th.png

When I click on resume compositing, I get a message saying that a program disabled compositing and I can resume it.

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

sgunput,
i was having EXACTLY the same issue. Then I rebooted to runlevel3 and emptied out my home folder.
Then I logged back into KDE and the compositing was working. Some file in your home folder is overriding
the compositing. Its not in the .kde4 folder either. I first try removing that one alone and it didn't help.
It is something else in the home folder. Possibly inside .config or .local

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

Instead of modifying my home folder I usually create a new user and check if that user has the same problems as I. If it doesn't, *then* I start fiddling with my files.

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

grey,
thats how i figured out that it was my home folder. I created a new account and went
into it and the problem wasn't there. So I then started playing with my home folder.

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

Sorry to hijack an old thread, but I'm having the exact same problem.
Starting through kdm as usual locks up compositing, but starting through startx or a new user has it working fine. I'd rather not refresh my home directory, as orphius suggests, because of the tedium of reconfiguring everything. Instead, does anybody have any ideas on what the offending file could be?

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

The offending entry ("Session=kde-safe") is in ~/.dmrc.

Re: Compositing suspended on boot

Ah, now I feel stupid. I've done autologin since the beginning, so I didn't even think to check what session I was starting.
And now everything work!

Thanks
