Thanks to a non-synching local mirror (ihug.nz), I fiddled with pacman.d/mirrorlist.
No problem on my 32-bit install, but I stupidly copied the 32-bit mirrorlist to my 64-bit laptop then did a pacman -Syyu and installed 156MB of updates today.
Now of course X won't start on reboot (wrong ELFCLASS etc).
Can I restore this easily by reneabling the proper 64-bit repo and resynching / resintalling X?
I hope so!!
[EDIT] Bah. I've bitten the bullet and issued:
pacman -S $(pacman -Qq | grep -v "$(pacman -Qmq)")...obviously with the x86_64 bit repo renabled!!

Can't you just check pacman.log and uninstall those packages?

Just install each of those packages twice... 2 * 32 = 64, problem solved.

Yup - manually reinstalling the packages indicated in pacman.log worked.
It was annoying that there was a download error somewhere in the 1.2GB full reinstall download which meant no transactions occurred, but at least the newly downloaded packages in the cache meant the limited reinstall went without a hitch.
