setup wireless network with netcfg

[root@duncan-desktop network.d]# netcfg wireless-wep
:: wireless-wep up [BUSY] dhcpcd: wifi0: unknown hardware family
dhcpcd: timed out
 - DHCP IP lease attempt failed.
                                                                         [FAIL]
[root@duncan-desktop network.d]#

here's the profile:

[root@duncan-desktop network.d]# cat ./wireless-wep
CONNECTION="wireless"
DESCRIPTION="A simple WEP encrypted wireless connection"
INTERFACE="wifi0"
SECURITY="wep"
ESSID="FedoraMan"
KEY="a 6 digit number"
IP="dhcp"

I don't have any idea what I'm doing. Can someone help?
I'm trying to create a wireless network I can connect to on my laptop.

Re: setup wireless network with netcfg

Are you sure that wifi0 is the name of the interface? I'm guessing that it's wlan0. Check with iwconfig.

dhcp is definatly running on the router? Trying giving yourself a static IP. Run iwevent then do the netcfg again

Re: setup wireless network with netcfg

What's the output of "ifconfig -a" before executing this command ? The "wifi0: unknown hardware family" makes me believe the wifi0 interface is not configured properly (i.e link encap is not ethernet).

Have you tried to connect to your wireless network without netcfg ?

Re: setup wireless network with netcfg

I'm trying to turn my computer into a wireless access point, not connect to a wireless network.
