network speed test under linux?

I've been experimenting with jumbo frames on my gigalan network.  Basically, I set the mtu size on the two test machine, then transfer some files to and from them measuring the throughput.  Is there a program to test throughput between two machines on a network that doesn't involve the user literally copying files?

Re: network speed test under linux?

I have used something in the past when I was also looking at jumbo frames until I realised my NIC doesn't support them. sad I think it was called lperf. IT was quite interesting to see the difference between TCP and UDP. There are a bunch of utilities for checking network throughput listed here.
