Where is the 2.6.32 kernel?

Hi,

I have done a latest upgrade "pacman -Syu" and I see that some 2.6.32 headers got installed, but no kernel.

Is their something borked with my system, uname -r shows "2.6.31-ARCH"

I would really like to run 2.6.32 as KMS is only supported for my graphics card in that version ..

Thanks

It is only going to be available to our commercial customers.

No your system is not borked. kernel-headers are tied to glibc, not to the kernel itself. This has been mentioned in the forums once or twice in the past.

$ pacman -Qi kernel-headers | grep Description
Description : Kernel headers sanitized for use in userspace

Hi,

Not sure what you mean here .... not available forever, or just at the moment?

Ok, but my question is still un-answered. I ask because I see talk in the forums of folk using 2.6.32 ...

Jokes like this can lead to a heart attack %)

Back on topic:
bmentink, what do you expect from the new kernel for 2.6.31 to be unsatisfactory?

It's in the testing repository which was only a short search away:

From the ATI wiki page:

Note: For now, only Radeons up to R5xx (X1xxx) support KMS. Support for later Radeon cards will be added in Linux kernel 2.6.32.

You can always go to the front page and enter kernel26 in the "package search" box at the upper-right corner of the page to see what repos hold each of the various versions of kernel26.

I would not get too excited...  KMS and ATi is still not a lot of fun and is disabled by default.

Then the wiki is wrong?

Since version 2.6.31, KMS is available and is enabled by default in the default Arch kernel.

Not wrong, just outdated. The decision to disable radeon's KMS in the 2.6.32.x kernel have just been made a few days ago.

Re: Where is the 2.6.32 kernel?

You can get the latest kernel from kernel.org and configure it yourself or automatically with localmodconfig

The reasons are already discussed here:

Please search the forums before opening a topic wink. We don't need two (or more) topics on the same subject, so this one is getting locked.
