Hi all,
I don't think this is a packaging issue, but I can't work out what went wrong.
I rebooted my computer and my wireless stopped working, by which I mean the wlan0 has disappeared from iwconfig. I think I need advice on troubleshooting this. The only thing I can think of that stopped it working is that I ran pacman -Syu. However, only a few things have changed today:
[2010-01-31 10:25] synchronizing package lists
[2010-01-31 10:25] starting full system upgrade
[2010-01-31 10:25] upgraded libcap (2.17-1 -> 2.19-1)
[2010-01-31 10:25] upgraded zlib (1.2.3.7-1 -> 1.2.3.7-2)
[2010-01-31 10:26] installed perl-error (0.17015-1)
[2010-01-31 10:26] installed git (1.6.6.1-1)
It's an EeePC 901 with the Ralink wireless card. I can still connect to the internet via eth0. The wireless card doesn't appear in lshw. I also had a look at lsmod and lspci but I couldn't see it there.
Any help as to what to do next is appreciated.
Matt

Just to follow up,
I saw the bug in kernel .32 about the card going to sleep. So I tried:
iwconfig wlan0 power off
And I got:
SET failed on device wlan0 ; No such device

I've got a 901 with a working wireless, and havenm't updated for a day or so. So I'm happy to help - and maybe do some comparisons if they cabn narrow anything down.
You could check
lspci | grep -i net
Then look for what's returned from ther that in the dmesg output?
eg
dmesg | grep rt2860
It will at least let you know that it's being seen.
What do you get if you just do iwconfig ?

I've got an up-to-date 901 and the only way I can replicate your issue is to turn the wifi off with the hotkey -- but it couldn't be that simple, could it?
(Doesn't hurt to ask theory at work here).

I've now fully upgraded, too. wireless working fine, so yeah I'm agreeing that it doesn't hurt to ask.

[2010-01-31 10:25] upgraded zlib (1.2.3.7-1 -> 1.2.3.7-2)
I have an eeePC 1000HD using Network Manager, and ALL networking (wired and wireless) broke after upgrading zlib...
At least that is my hunch. Zlib was my only upgrade on Saturday. I just booted the machine this morning (first time since then) and discovered the problem.
EDIT: I just downgraded zlib, but the problem persists.
EDIT #2: Wired networking is working (I'm embarrassed to admit that I had it plugged into a dead port). Still having wireless issues.
Anyone have any fresh ideas?
