ext4 and external USB drive

Hi,

i bought an external USB drive for backing up my stuff. Now I formatted the drive with ext4 and made one big primary partition, everything done with gparted. Now 14 GB of 850 GB are used but the drive is empty? Now hidden files or something like this. Is this some overhead of the filesystem or what?

Thanks in advance.:)

Re: ext4 and external USB drive

Have you looked at the wikipedia page for ext4? I would try google'ing it, but my guess is that it is because of the journal that is on by default (always?) for ext4 file systems.

And dont forget the space removed reserved for root.
Which you can decrease, for example to 0.1% of the total, with tune2fs.
