I recently exposed my workstation to the net (http and ssh) so I want to get it nice and firewalled. I installed ufw since I find it pretty easy to setup. The only problem is I can no longer print ![]()
The place the workstation is located has many printers that broadcast to cups. Previously, I just turned on browsing in cupsd.conf and then could see all the printers with the lpstat command.
After turning on ufw, I can't see any printers. After looking into it, I tried enabling tcp and udp on port 631 for the local network since I believe this is the port cups uses to broadcast printer availability. Before I did this I was logging a lot of blocked packets on this port, but that stopped after opening the port to the local network. However I did not regain the ability to see network printers with lpstat.
If I turn off ufw, I can immediately start to see printers with lpstat again.
Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?
