Two monitors, two separate Xorg instances

Quick question:

I have a laptop with a VGA out. I know that it is possible, using dual head, xinerama, etc to run a single instance of Xorg that spans two monitors.

Is it possible to run two different xorg instances (one on the left screen, another on the right)? How would one switch between the two (Ctrl+Alt+F7 , Ctrl+Alt+F8)?

Ideally, I'd love to run wmii on the left and xfce on the right.

If someone could point me in the right direction (xorg samples would be especially appreciated), that would be splendid!

Thanks!

A more accurate thread topic/subject will probably yield you better/more responses...

Re: Two monitors, two separate Xorg instances

It's possible. You will need to downgrade gdm to version 2.20 following this instruction:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gno … ngrade_gdm

Then, follow the instructions of this topic:

Good luck.

Re: Two monitors, two separate Xorg instances

Thanks! What if I don't want multiseat as I will be the only user and will only use one Xorg at a time?
