dbus-daemon segfaults during pacman -Syu

I'm not sure where else to put this, so I'm dumping it in Newbie Corner... Mods feel free to move it smile

So during both my last pacman -Syu upgrades, my whole system has hard-locked (mouse frozen, music stuttering over and over, SysRq useless) in the middle of upgrading. I've had to hit the reset button both times, which has completely fsck'ed the system since the kernel was unable to sync to the disk, all kind of libraries and binaries etc have ended up zero-length etc. I managed to fix it both times by booting the installation CD, chrooting and running a script to parse pacman.log and reinstall the packages it had already installed, then manually reinstalling any packages that ldconfig is still complaining about, then finally running pacman -Syu again.

This time I got a hint as to the problem:

Mar 22 20:29:05 phil-desktop kernel: __ratelimit: 144 callbacks suppressed
Mar 22 20:29:05 phil-desktop kernel: dbus-daemon[2340]: segfault at 18 ip 00007f253727c6c4 sp 00007fff6689ede0 error 4 in dbus-daemon (deleted)[7f253724f000+4c000]

Mar 22 20:29:05 phil-desktop dbus-daemon: Reloaded configuration

Any thoughts from the brains trust as to what it going on? It's getting really damn annoying, not least of all because I have no music while I'm in the chroot fixing things! sad

Re: dbus-daemon segfaults during pacman -Syu

This seemed familiar to me so I did a search:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=29462
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=45360

I can seem to remember in the past it was a general suggestion that people should always upgrade dbus from the console.  Saying that, I only remember doing so for the upgrade in the second link...

I see, said the blind man to the deaf dog....  I'll try that next time if dbus is part of the upgrade smile

Cheers Allan. Another +1 on the beer tab for you wink
