Alpine

Afternoon everyone-
I use Alpine as my mailing agent on a eeepc 901. I use it to access my university webmail. Opening the Inbox for mail.xxx.edu works like a charm. However, sending mail takes awhile. I usually wait about 8 to 9 seconds for  Alpine to prompt for my password, indicating that the connection with smtp.xxx.edu is  made. After entering the password, the message is sent without a problem.
Is there any reason why connecting to smtp takes longer? Is this sort of thing normal? Or should I just get over it ?

Re: Alpine

Hard to tell without dumping the traffic and seeing what it's doing 'behind the scenes'.... Perhaps it's having issues negotiating SSL/TLS if it's using that...?

Re: Alpine

I assume you have tried another client because the first thing I would blame is the smtp server itself.
