I think you mean version five, but that is only for windows. 1.3.0 is the latest for Linux and avast only provides it for x86.
However, I did check the PKGBUILD and it seems that the submitter has made provisions for x86_64, by putting dependencies on lib32-xxx
So install and use it. Note however, that you will have to register your copy and get a key from Avast (free for non-commercial use) to be able to use it.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Hello Inxisible
What i meant is Avast! Linux home edition.
I have now loaded Clamaav.
But, when I tried to install avast.tar.gz , with pacman -U command, it used to say, unrecognised file format.
Past tense, because clamav has deleted the avast.tar.gz file

I meant the Avast! Linux home edition as well. That's version 1.3.0. Check here Avast Linux Home Edition
I assume, you got the error because you tried to install the Tarball from the AUR. you have to use an AUR frontend like yaourt or clyde to install the package. Or you can do a makepkg -i on the PKGBUILD or makepkg -si to also handle dependencies.
pacman requires all the installation packages to be of xxx.pkg.tar.gz or xxx.pkg.tar.xz (newer) format !!!
Read the wiki article on AUR to get more information

Usually the way we mark things solved around here is by editing the original post and putting that in the title of the thread. That way, people can see that it's solved without having to open the thread and scroll down to the bottom
