Dear Archers

Somebody pl. guide me.

I am surprised that, it says reading pacman.conf, because, verbose output at the time of upgrading said it would use pacman.conf. pacnew, henceforth

Dear Archers
Thanks to all of you

Allan
Thanks to your sharp eyes // remarks about the $ in front of the architecture. This was the trouble.
In the earrlier mirrorlists, architecture wa specified. Now after this upgrade 2days back, we have to manually enter the architecture

I think you might have misinterpreted the output, the pacnew file is the default file from the package, you need to make changes to pacman.conf to make it compatible see the wiki

The Architecture option that would be added in the new pacman.conf might be your explanation, I'm not sure what pacman would do if it's not being set.

If merging the pacnew doesn't solve your problem try posting your mirrorlist file (and there's probably a mirrorlist.pacnew as well, though your old one should be compatible with the new pacman)

San2Ban, can you please use code tags around output or files that you post.

debug: adding new server URL to database 'community': ftp://ftp.halifax.rwth-aachen.de/archli … os/$x86_64
debug: adding new server URL to database 'community': ftp://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/ArchLin … os/$x86_64

Notice that extra $ before x86_64...   that is weird...  You do not happen to have "$$arch" in your mirrorlist file?
