Wireless: SSID is lost when wpa_supplicant is started, no connection

Hi,

I'm trying to set up the integrated r8187se wireless adapter of my notebook on a fresh Arch install. What I've tried looks like this:

# iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Operation not permitted
# ip link set wlan0 up
# iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Scan completed :
          Cell 01 - Address: 00:18:E7:25:A6:73
                    ESSID:"Connectify-asdefjak"
                    Protocol:IEEE 802.11g
                    Mode:Master
                    Channel:1
                    Encryption key:on
                    Bit Rates:54 Mb/s

                    Extra: Last beacon: 3ms ago

# iwconfig wlan0 essid "connectify-asdefjak"
# iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 802.11b/g ESSID:"connectify-asdefjak"
          Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate:11 Mb/s
          Retry:on RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=0 dBm Noise level=0 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
# wpa_supplicant -c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf -i wlan0

After that wpa_supplicant runs forever without any output. The access point (connectify on a Windows 7 host) doesn't report any clients. If I CTRL-C it or just use another VT, the output of iwconfig looks like this:

wlan0 802.11b/g Mode:Managed Channel=163
          Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate:11 Mb/s
          Retry:on RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
Link Quality=0/100 Signal level=0 dBm Noise level=0 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

When wpa_supplicant starts, the following happens in dmesg:

[ 5113.042013] r8180: Bringing up iface
[ 5113.242102] r8180: Card successfully reset
[ 5113.984682] r8180: WIRELESS_MODE_G
[ 5113.984686]

After I CTRL-C it, scanning doesn't work again and I have to run "ip link set wlan0 up" again.

wpa_supplicant.conf:

network={
	ssid="connectify-asdefjak"
	#psk="testtest"

(I had plugged in another wireless adapter for testing (rtl8192cu) but it didn't work either)

The adapter works fine on Windows XP and the Kubuntu Live CD (11.04)
