My PC Card slots are borked, so I need to go with usb for wireless. Anything 11g that I've found is either not linux-friendly (I want to go native, not ndiswrapper) or USB 2.0 (not possible on my 5-year-old Dell) or both.
So my current thinking is 11b, second-hand, either prism2 or atmel. Does anyone have any relevant experience to share?
TIA

ndiswrapper is not as bad as it sounds - the only thing you lose is the ability to run iwspy - which isn't a big loss
If you're set on 802.11g, go with the ndiswrapper one if it's easier/cheaper

I'm using a Netgear WG111 for my laptop, which, like yours, also doesn't have support for USB 2.0. It works very well using ndiswrapper. Like phrakture said, there's really nothing wrong with ndiswrapper. For a prism2 driver device, I've also used the Netgear MA111 for both my laptop and my TiVo. I sometimes had trouble getting it to connect to WEP encrypted access points, but that's probably due more to the fact that I'm an idiot, rather than some deficiency with the MA111 or the wlan-ng drivers. Both of these are wicked small and I got them for less than $20. I highly recommend either one of them.

Well.. no monitor mode either, so no kismet.
I'm not particularly set on 11g - the speed would be handy, but the functionality is more important.
I'll keep an eye out for the MA111, babyigor37.

Thanks.

Hi,
I need a WiFI usb dongle or "station" for my Desktop at home. Can anybody recommend one that works out of the box. Currently I have a rtl8187 which is just a huge nightmare.
