Rt2870/Rt3070

Getting really annoyed atm. Have been trying to get my D-Link DWA-125 USB WiFi to work with no success at all. Have been googling, seaching forums for hours, but nothing seems to be working. Now i don't even know what i've done anymore, been trying out way too much.

And all of a sudden i found that since kernel 3.0 the drivers called rt2800usb are working with the rt2870 shipset (seems like rt2870 and rt3070 is using the same drivers). How that is supposed to work I have no idea.

Anyone knows what to do about this? If i don't get it up and running soon, I'm gonna sell this and get a new one. But that seems alittle drastic when it should work "out of the box" according to the rt2870 wiki.

Ohh, and BTW. I'm not all that good with compiling and so on, so if there will be some command -writing, please write exactly what to change in files and so on.

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

I can try to help. Please post the output of "sudo lspci -v", just the section pertaining to your wireless adapter.

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

lspci will not help, because we're dealing wit an usb device. So, if anything, we need the output of lsusb. We also need the output of dmesg, so we can see what went wrong with loading the driver.

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

Output from lsusb:

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 07d1:3c16 D-Link System DWA-125 Wireless N 150 Adapter(rev.A2) [Ralink RT3070]
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 1221:3234
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c069 Logitech, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 045e:00db Microsoft Corp. Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 V1.0

Tried various ourputs for dmesg, the only i found something with was dmesg | grep rt2870:

[    3.568249] rtusb init rt2870 --->
[ 3.571785] usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870

As i said earlier, i've been playing around way too much with this, changed things and so on, so it's possible it can be alittle messy. But since it's a clean (almost) install i'm thinking bout finding an ethernet cable and do a fresh install. Only have to move the computer to get to the modem

Oh well, all help is welcome

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

Full dmesg output please, who knows what grepping has missed. The thing should work, the usb-id is listed in the kernel source, the rt2800usb driver is aware of the device. What exactly doesn't work? Are tools not seeing the device, is scanning for networks not returning any results, do you have networks but connecting fails? What are the error messages from various tools? Does dmesg print anything new after you've tried various things?

The big problem here is that googling for this device, all results will be "blacklist rt2800usb, use the sta driver". But the sta driver is gone. Though, like I said, the rt2800usb is now aware of this device, it should work.

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

I've come as far as trying to get wpa_supplicant up and running, but it fails (can't remember the details right now and i'm not at the failing computer atm).
Will make a fresh install this afternoon since i've been messing around alot. If it still isn't working i will post the full dmesg with the fresh install.

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

It's working after I installed arch from scratch. Too bad i started "messing around" just before 3.0 of the krenel, otherwise it would have been working out of the box as it did now,

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

I have the same USB dongle as mentioned in the post. I am running the latest arch iso (6th Oct release). The problem I have is , the Wireless card is detected and wifi-menu wlan0 is successfully scanning the available networks. However , when I give the password and re-run the wifi , it always gives the error - "Authentication Failed could not associate with wlan0"....Some other times , I get "WPA authentication failed - Bad password"..

i am sure the password is right.

Based on guidance in arch-wiki , I downloaded linux-firmware (from some other distro ) and installed . I restarted wlan0 , still not being able to connect.

Should I try something else like wicd-curses or ndiswrapper?

pl help with this .

Re: Rt2870/Rt3070

vikrang,

You shouldn't bump old threads.  I, and likely others, had to see posts that are based on totally outdated information.  Arch has changed a great deal since early 2011, the situation in the thread previous to your post likely does not still apply.

You'd be better off creating a brand-new thread and in that first post linking to this one if you think it is relevant.
