Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

I'm having some weird issues with the graphics. There are constantly transparent pixels all over the place in game. I'm running Arch Linux 64-bit with with a Sandy Bridge i5 for my GPU. Has anyone seen this before, or have a solution?

Here's a screenshot of the problem:

Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Also, just to add, this happens on all distros I've tried on this computer, and the problem seems to have gotten worse after the update to the linux kernel 3.

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

do you have openjdk or jre (from sun) installed on your computer? make sure you have sun jre installed and also try this tutorial: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutor … date_LWJGL

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

Had the same problem yesterday, after those artifacts appear a little bit later a lot more of them appeared and most of my programs had glitches in them, which disappeared after an X restart.

I guess we have to wait for xf86-video-intel-2.16.0 to get into extra or testing at least. It might be fixed there.

I have openjdk installed right now, but this also happens in the sun jre. I'll try updating LWJGL.

I haven't experienced any trouble with other programs, but yeah, hopefully the next update intel driver update will help.

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

Well, I noticed it in a couple of other graphical heavy applications, but not as much as Minecraft. So it's not only java that's causing the problem for me.

Also, I updated LWJGL to no avail. So that doesn't seem like a solution.

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

This isn't a Java issue, I'm having the same issue on my laptop's i7 (HD3000) across the board.

As far as I'm aware, the Sandybridge driver is currently very dodgy (Mesa 7.11 is much better, 7.10 was pretty much unusable) but there are still issues like this, I'm also getting random soft-locks that get caught by the kernel and XOrg but it's able to recover.

The "lots of ants" artifacting happening in many games appears to be an issue with alpha transparency in general:

https://xnode.org/files/intel/fr08-2.jpg
https://xnode.org/files/intel/minecraft.jpg
https://xnode.org/files/intel/wc3.jpg

I took these on my laptop the other day.
SuperTuxKart also has the same issue but it mainly shows on other Karts (a specific few) and rarely on the environment.

I've tried Mesa/Intel-Dri GIT and Intel (xf86-driver) GIT and the problem still occurs. The issue is more likely to be fixed with Mesa is updated rather than the XOrg driver.

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

Just to add, I noticed it in VVVVVV just recently. So yeah, not just java. I've noticed it much more in Minecraft, but perhaps that's because of all the transparency.

Does anyone know if a bug report is filed for this? It's really annoying.

EDIT: I found a bug report here on the mesa bugtracker with your picture. Thanks for filing it.

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

When I asked the Intel guys, they said to log each game as a saperate issue for some reason, seems a bit pointless when lots of games are clearly affected by the same issue. But yeah, that was the Minecraft one.
What I've done is rename that bug and make all the others I've raised duplicates of that one and now add more information (specifically more native games that you don't have to buy) so hopefully it'll get resolved sooner.

Yep, looks like there's quite a few out there. If you didn't already see it, be sure to check out the bug report here and add yourself to the CC list.

Re: Weird transparency bug in Minecraft

I updated my kernel to  3.0.0-15-generic x86_64 and the issue seems to have been resolved. I recommend to anyone else who was having these issues to update their kernel if they can.
