Japanese Arch wallpapers

I've been learning Japanese for a few years now and something that helps me is to surround myself with the language. I change my system language to Japanese, have sticky notes on household items etc... Wanting to keep the theme going, I made some Arch wallpapers.

The text is simply a translation of "A simple, lightweight Linux distribution." Lightweight with katakana was very long so I opted for the kanji form of けいりょう instead.

Re: Japanese Arch wallpapers

Hey, they look pretty nice!
I've been learning it from time to time myself, only know very basic phrases and grammar (forgotten most of it though). If I had time I might've learned it properly.
Isn't one of the thumb rules in japanese to use kanji as much as possible? Why consider using katakana or hiragana?

Again, nice work! smile

I wouldn't be surprised if you used katakana for distribution in this context, if there's an equivalent word in Japanese I don't know.

Google says that the kanji word for distribution is 配布, while the katakana word is ディストリビューション.

Re: Japanese Arch wallpapers

Actually I had trouble choosing which word for distribution to use, in the end I opted for using katakana to sound it out, the short form I imagine would be to use "disutoro" or something since we're talking about technology. Maybe ぶんぱい or はいきゅう though, I'm not sure.

Re: Japanese Arch wallpapers

The Japanese Wikipedia uses ディストリビューション for the Linux Distribution article title, but both the kana and kanji (配布) versions in the body. Nevertheless, I think the kana version is the best for the purposes of your wallpapers' caption.
