If you're using a stock kernel the catalyst + catalyst-utils package should do the trick for you.
I Installed my driver the following way: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … repository .
Thank you for your reply
But... what is a "stock kernel"? is it the latest kernel version? I've just installed Arch and the system is up to date now.
And I've seen that "TI_Catalyst#.5Bcatalyst.5D_repository" page before but anyway, I'm going to try one more time.
PS: do you know the difference between "catalyst.apocalypsus.net"and AUR? I've just got confused

Hi I'm using 11.9 with no issues.
But I want to say --- talking all those here is messy, you see? We've got such a long thread already, which is difficult to find out useful information inside. Why don't we setup a mailing list? At least Google Groups can do.
It's really very long...
BTW, could you please tell me how did you install the 11.9?

And which useful information will that be?

I see linux-3.0.6-2 is available in core. Is this compatible with Catalyst 11.8?

It's really happening rarely that you need to update catalyst after smaller linux update (smaller = 3.0.5 -> 3.0.6, bigger = 3.0 -> 3.1)

Important informations should be stored on Archwiki

i can see that xorg-server 1.11.1 has landed in [extra], so just to remind: please use [xorg110] repo:

@Vi0L0 is there a reason for this catalyst-specific packages not to be in the [catalyst] repository ?

Thanks for the heads up. Really appreciated before I pacman -Syu'd into a broken system. Cheers!!

That wouldn't happen. Since catalyst-utils currently requires xorg-server<1.11.0 pacman would have refused to upgrade when detecting xorg-server 1.11 in [extra].

Ah that's awesome! Good to know. I'm always a little worried since catalyst isn't supported, but that makes sense.
Thanks!

You should read the pacman output and a warning light should go off in your head, since catalyst almost always breaks on new xorg versions.

Agreed, people should definitely do this.

@Vi0L0 is there a reason for this catalyst-specific packages not to be in the [catalyst] repository ?
Yeah, xorg-server was in the past a part of [catalyst] repo, although i found seperate [xorg*] repos:
- easier in maintanance;
- cleaner (with it [catalyst] repo is not that messy, especially when you will look at it via http);
- more logical.
Since some time catalyst is supporting various xserver' versions - so users could actually go back to ie. xserver 1.9 if they have problems with ie. 1.10 version.
There is many AUR users, so for them separate [xorg*] repo is a better choice, i believe - ie.they don't like to use unofficial repos because they don't trust them, so they preffer AUR and building packages on their own system, they can use [xorg*] repo which contains only packages copied from [extra] repo, or they could list this repo and blacklist packages which are the parts of this repo.
Plus i believe that smaller is better than big - here i mean "modularization" as in software developing - writing a lot of small programs is better than writing one big program, you know: streams, unix philosophy, KISS etc.

Does anyone know when xorg 1.11 will be supported by catalyst?

Maybe this month, maybe the next? Who knows. And those, who use the beta-drivers for testing aren't allowed to talk about it (NDA).

Depending on how long xorg 1.11 support takes I may just switch to the old xorg repo and continue to update my system. Right now I'm sort of in system update limbo.

@kjslag:
i have added previous release of xf86-video-fbdev package into the repo, should be fine now.
Does xf86-video-fbdev need to be added to xorg110?
I dont't have this package installed on my system, although if anybody want some x-related package to be added - feel free to ask.

Is this safe to do? I wanted to make sure before I hit 'y' and break my system lol.

if you are using this apm module then it's not safe
i already put older version of this package into [xorg110] repo
btw: your system is not that easy to brake, its not *******

Same problem on my desktop, Radeon 5770.
I don't use testing or multilib repos, only standard ones + catalyst and archlinuxfr.
Now I'm using opensource driver, but maybe I have no power saving features and in my opinion it's not safe for my Radeon health (I'm using gnome 3 fallback mode without compiz.. shell is ok, but I don't like it on desktop pc).
