[SOLVED] how to change the $PATH, outside the shell ?

Dear Archers,
I've tried to extend the PATH variable in .bashrc, it works in the shell but has no effect on tools like Application Runner (the Gnome Alt-F2) or the Command Line applet for gnome-panel (which I find more than useful). So, what should I do/edit for a "general" path modification ?

thanks,
I thought there was some no-root way to do that but that's not an issue...

~/.bashrc will work too, for your user only, but you have to relogin.

Also make sure that you export the variable from your .bashrc.
