Choppy sound in virtualization guest

Hello!

I'm running kernel 3.0-ARCH x64, and I'm running a Windows 7 x64 guest.  Both VirtualBox and VMware Player have a similar problem: the audio is garbled with lots of static or something.  VMware is especially bad, pretty much unusable, whereas VirtualBox is just really annoying.  The fact that both of those products have audio problems make me suspect my Arch configuration.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  I've spent a lot of time searching, and I've found lots of people with problems like this, but most posts are unanswered, and the ones that do have solutions don't work for me, and no one I've found is running a Win7x64 guest.

I'm using VMware Player 4.0.0 and VirtualBox 4.1.4.  My motherboard is a MSI P55M-GD45, and I'm using its onboard sound.

I run a win 7 64 guest in virtualbox.  I do notice occasional sound garbling, but its not very bad. Also, using sound is not why I use Windows in a VM. So I have tended to just ignore the problem.

I haven't deviated from the standard settings in Vbox by much so I don't think it would be a config issue. Virtualization has its limitations.

Thanks for the info, Inxsible.

Before I installed Arch, I used Linux Mint + VirtualBox, and I don't think I had this problem.  I don't remember for sure, but I suspect it's because it worked, so I just never noticed.  Whereas I immediately noticed in Arch that the sound was garbled.  If this were a bigger deal for me, I might go through the effort to reinstall Mint and double check.

So maybe another way to make it work in Arch is to try to configure my audio like Mint does it.  Any tips anyone might have in that regard would be much appreciated as well.

In the meantime, I'll just hope someone eventually responds with a solution, and I'll keep searching now and then.
