Rear microphone in skype

I was using the rear mic successfully in skype, but all of a sudden it has stopped working. Probably after the latest skype update.

I tried deleting the ~/.Skype folder to see if it helps any, but it didnt.

My front mic works as it should, but I would rather have all the wires hidden behind the tower. Here's a screen shot of the various Microphone options in skype for my machine. The rear mic doesn't work for any of the options:

Any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem. Peculiar. Did you manage to solve it? Using KDE with phonon-gstreamer.

I loaded up Ubuntu livecd and it could detect the rear mic.

Never mind, solved it. Tinkered with the alsamixer. Had to mute a control called 'Smart 5.1'

I had the same issue during the past two weeks (Skype not seeing my mic inputs, neither other Audio-Video app such as GTalk).
Finally yesterday I managed to fix it by simply adding this line into '/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf':

 options snd-hda-intel model=auto

One more thing if you're using pulse audio on a 64bit Arch: install lib32-libpulse and remove the '~/.pulse' config folder to reset it.

@R00KIE yeah nothing was plugged in the front.. I don't have a 5.1 sound setup, so the playback was screwed up I suppose. alsamixer FTW!

I use it every once in a while but I use it with pulseaudio and so far no problems. As a note for posterity, hda codecs can "sense" when something is connected and jacks can act both as input and output, so having something connected can make a difference and the number of outputs configuration will affect the behavior of inputs/outputs, hence my question.

On another note, this thread was a little old and I didn't notice it when I replied, so whatever the problem was (and is for another user) it might not even be related so better take the new problem to a new thread I guess.
