Do you have nouveau in modprobe.conf or mkinitcpio.conf?
Offline

Nope...
$ grep nouv /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
$ grep nouv /etc/mkinitcpio.confOffline

lsinitcpio /boot/initramfs-linux.img | grep nouveau
grep nouveau /etc/rc.conf
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
Offline

@wonder - nope... other ideas are welcome... should I open a flyspray?
$ lsinitcpio /boot/initramfs-linux-ck.img | grep nouveau

Can you first rerun all the searches with '-i' flag to ignore case?
Offline

@karol - sure!
$ grep -i nouv /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf
$ grep -i  nouv /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
$ lsinitcpio /boot/initramfs-linux-ck.img | grep -i nouveau
$ grep -i nouveau /etc/rc.conf
$ grep -i /etc/modprobe.d/nouveau_blacklist_ck.conf

Hold on guys.... the problem seems to be xorg. If I boot runlevel 3, no nouveau. As soon as I start X:

do you have nouveau-dri installed AND nvidia-utils? because that is impossible
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
Offline

i think having xf86-video-nouveau and nvidia installed with the *ahem* magic patch should be enough to get this behavior. install xf86-video-nv and you'll get 3 different drivers loaded.

I don't have nouveau-dri:

xorg-xdriinfoBUT I do have:
$ pacman -Qq | grep nouv
xf86-video-nouveauAfter removing it, and rebooting, problem solved:
$ lsmod | grep nouvIs this a bug and should I open a ticket? I would think both drivers should be able to co-exist (with one lying dormant) on a system without this behavior.
