it takes a long time to connect to the arch wiki and bbs, after connecting the first time it seems to respond smoothly until i restart the browser, i had to post this from Windows 7 running inside virtualbox, any idea what could be causing this.

Which browsers have you tried? Have you tried a lightweight browser like midori, netsurf or dillo, just for comparison? Do you use a proxy? How does "dig archlinux.org" "dig bbs.archlinux.org" and "dig wiki.archlinux.org" look now? Thx.

i tried in firefox and chromium, i've tried it with and without a proxy, also by slow i ment it usually times out in chromium and just sits there in firefox just to describe my situation. im on a trip right now and won't be back till tomorrow so i wont be able to answer the other questions until then.

It could just be that there was more traffic to those webpages when you tried connecting.

at least you noticed what takes time? firefox should say, resolving bbs.archlinux.org, connecting... just tell us which one takes a lot of time first time
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

wiki.mozilla.org seems to be affected too, and it doesn't seem to be the dns name server
here's the info that dig returned anyway incase i missed something

it seems to be related to the vboxdrv module. because when it's not loaded, wait time seems to go way down.

This is happening to me as well, only when using Arch, if i use Windows it's fine, tried with Fedora 16 live too and it worked fine. Tried both Firefox and Chromium.
I also just tried Links, seems to work no problem there. Curious.

Almost sounds like they all depend on a common, shared, library that is having issues...
I also have been having these issues. I will some do more testing when I get home today.

Seems to still be happening for me, I really don't know where to go to diagnose it any further, it's very strange.

Something similar happened to me, and bbs & wiki were either very slow or simply unreachable. Turns out to be linked to IPv6 apparently, and when those would resolve to IPv6 things were slow at best. The main site (www) always resolved to an IPv4 so it was fine. (I'm assuming it's linked to IPv6 since turning it off made things normal/fast, though maybe SSL had to do with it as well?)
Do you have IPv6 enabled by any chance? If so, try disabling it and see if it changes something. Not that it's a solution, but if that's the case it might be a problem on the server's side maybe...?

just disabled it and it was ipv6, problem solved, thanks

I have been having the same problem...been driving me crazy. It only applies to Arch's forum's & wiki. I disabled ipv6 but that has not helped. I can connect to them on my Windows work computer with no problem. I have tried Firefox & Chromium but with the same results. So I am still searching for the answer. FYI, I am using at home Arch 64.

have you tried disabling it as described here, I was going to mark this thread as solved, but not if someone still has that problem, please post if you solved it so I know to mark it.
