John McCarthy has died

Not sure if it warrants another thread [1], but creator of Lisp, John McCarthy died :-((((

Yes, He deserves his own thread.  Split.

I had the honor of spending a week with him on an Island in the Caribbean in 1975.  I was in middle school at the time.  Marvin Minsky was there as well.  I did not realize at the time that I was in the presence of giants.

I never really got the whole Lisp thing, but his language apparently changed computing as well. Respect.

I couldn't believe it when I found out.  Like I was taking a Computer Science class and just beginning to learn about McCarthy when he died!  0_0  Sad, isn't it.  The Computer World has lost one of our best.

Not to forget, when McCarthy created Lisp computing was a really adventurous task. Nowadays most of his problems have become dull routine. tongue

Nevertheless, there is still a lot to explore. And we haven't really started non-algorithmic computing yet.
