Yes, they are. I use conky piped into dzen all in one bash-script for displaying top and bottom right panel. Bottom left panel is displayed with xmonad's DynamicLog.

Well Dolphin hasn't been slow for me so I cannot really tell... it feels snappy so maybe it is faster. Atleast it has fancy animations now.

Yes, it is a Terran SCV from a starcraft 2 fanart. Here is the fanart, and here is the wallpaper I made from it (1280x800).

I actually just nuked that config to use xmobar. Apologies. I can give you the script and method for conky but I have read mixed reviews on this method.

Its CWP or customizable weather plasmoid dragged into panel.
No special configs. Maybe just right click it and remove background from layout 2 tab? Think thats it.
