[solved] New mouse: Faster under Arch than under Win7

Hi,

unfortunately my MX518 died after many ears and now I'm on a CM Storm Spawn. Like on the MX518 the DPI can be adjusted on the fly between 800, 1800, and 3500.

The problem is, that the mouse is much faster under Arch than under Win7. Is there a way I can adjust the different DPI levels under Arch so that I have the same speed settings?

Thanks in advance!

No idea about dpi, but you can install xorg-xset and then do for example "xset m 0.5" to halve the mouse speed.

You may be talking about mouse acceleration. You have a gaming mouse, and gaming mouse manufacturers often disable mouse acceleration in the driver package. I personally disable acceleration on whichever platform I am using; I find it intolerable.

See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mouse_acceleration

Cheers

See thread.

Stay with 3500, to get the best from your mouse, and also set usbhid.mousepoll= appropriately in grub.

@Brebs: Adjusting mouse speed at the OS level can yield inconsistent results. If he wants to have an identical experience to what he gets on other platforms, he should set it to the equivalent of 6/11 on Windows, and use his mouse's native dpi adjustment to control the speed.

Thanks for your replies.

@aether: I don't know if it's the acceleration but I will will give your soulution a try. Can you please elaborate what you mean with

he should set it to the equivalent of 6/11 on Windows

?

\edit: Ok, I turned off mouse acceleration in Windows and now the experience is almost the same....still confused about the 6/11 thing though.

Hi there. I mean this:

6 out of 11 notches.

I haven't really looked for the equivalent in Linux, but after turning off acceleration, the mouse feel was sufficiently good for me.

Thx again...I mark this thread as [solved].

Kind of a Windows support thread smile
