I've switched to Archlinux from Ubuntu on my Gateway LT3103u netbook. There is a strange issue where my video is distorted. It is hard to describe in words, but it there are horizontal lines that are shifting and flickering.
This happens both at the command line and in an x session (Gnome). Here is my lspci:

I'm using the xf86-video-ati driver (although this same issue was occurring before I installed it).
Any help would be appreciated.

I faced the same problem on my Acer Aspire 5920g (Mobility RadeonHD 3650). The only way to solve it I have found is to disable KMS (I created /etc/modeprobe.d/radeon.conf with the single line
options radeon modeset=0
and removed radeon hook from mkinitcpio.conf). But I had to disable compiz effects in KDE because it crashes otherwise (with KMS enabled everything was OK). So, still waiting for normal solution...

I have solved the problem with KMS. The parameter new_pll=0 should be past to the radeon kernel module. I added radeon.new_pll=0 to my kernel boot line in menu.lst and added
options radeon new_pll=0
in /etc/modprobe.d/radeon.conf. Now everything works fine with KMS enabled.

Just registered an account to say that this = WORKS AMAZING!
I had to boot as "nomodeset" just run anything other than 2d.
This has went into my file for my next install.
Thank you!~ 1000x Thank you! Happy New Year.
