I am setting up a wordpress blog on my personal webserver, which is running Arch. For the most part everything works fine, except when I go to import the posts from the old blogspot blog. What I get is:
Could not connect to https://www.google.com
There was a problem opening a secure connection to Google. This is what went wrong:
Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (162520584)
Thank you for creating with WordPress.Version 3.3.1
What I've been able to dig up is that, likely, the server is not allowing outgoing https connections. I'm not sure how that can be, as I'm allowing all outgoing traffic. There may be a possible problem with how apache and PHP are set up, but I'm pretty sure I have apache set up with https enabled. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Have you tried pointing your web browser at the SSL version of your website? might help prove if SSL is enabled.
"Oh, they have the internet on computers now."

Yes. I can reach the SSL version. As far as I can tell, it's just the outgoing SSL connection from PHP that is the issue.
