[SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

Now that I've switched to Arch, I want to run it on all my VPS servers too. Is there a new version of "2011.08.19" template for OpenVZ/SolusVM somewhere ? Because the only version I could find is "2010.05" by one of the dev's "ibiru" here http://dev.archlinux.org/~ibiru/openvz/  If not, can some one please create a minimal image and contribute to community ? Perhaps with (OpenSSH/PacMan) only, so we can connect to the server and configure our boxes. I really like to try using Arch on VPS. I would do it, but I'm not that experienced with Arch linux just yet. Thank you.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

@wonder, I haven't tried buddy. But I would rather use newer version then older one if possible.
I found this wiki page, might help you. http://wiki.openvz.org/Archlinux_Template_creation

Also, I've found this following issue some one had with older image;
http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/85 … m-issue/p1

Thank you so much for doing this smile

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

@wonder, I've checked your blog yesterday and you had post about "Linux Action Show – Review Arch". I've forgot about the show lol Thank you for reminding me of it. I've watched that episode about Arch Linux, and now even more happier I've switched over. I absolutly love "Arch Linux". Its exactly what I need, when I need it. I can easily say this is perfect distro for linux power users. It took me a bit to learn install/config process, but its sooo worth it. So thank you all developers of Arch Linux. I'll make sure to contribute in time my self, ones I'm more advanced.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

I've found one blog with couple of bug fixes for version 2010.05 @ http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated

You can find this fixes here; http://blog.metaether.net/2011/07/17/ar … envz-vpss/

I'm going to attempt installing 2010.05 on one of my vps boxes, and see if I can make it work.

Alright guys, I've able to successfully install and configure "Arch Linux 2010.05" on SolusVM/OpenVZ VPS server.
I have contributed some notes to Arch Wiki here; https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VP … ith_OpenVZ

Just use the existing old template and update it and you will have the same result.See the link to the wiki

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

Alright guys, here is how to install it. See my wiki page at http://wiki.gotux.net/arch:vps
Make sure you also check arch news page for few other things you will need to do manually.
In time I will edit this wiki page to have more information, if no new template will be created.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

Well its no longer works. In fact using that method again, I have broken my vps and can't install it back at this time. So my website is down at the moment. I will reply back if I find a solution. Thanks.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

Alright, after playing with vps whole day. I've finally figured it out again.
Old posted tutorials will not work, so don't even try them. I will post on
my wiki how I've done it in detail. After I get my website up and running.
Sorry for the down time, should be back online tonight smile

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

If you follow those steps in arch wiki at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … ith_OpenVZ you will break your VPS, and get kernel panic errors. Use my wiki tutorial here instead, its more complete tutorial I've done upon fresh install; http://wiki.gotux.net/arch:vps

@ jancici, your welcome. See my wiki page now located at http://wiki.gotux.net/arch:vps  and yes you should keep rc.local with those commands inside.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

I've been following your blog and the wiki, as I pretty much use Arch exclusively everywhere (bare metal, Xen and OpenVZ/Virtuozzo). Up until a couple of weeks ago, those instructions worked great. Apparently, something got changed and now a udev update is broken. (BTW, this is on a 2010.05 template box, but I imagine it will affect others)

 [root@web2 ~]# pacman -S udev

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

I had to blacklist udev (which prevents initscripts due to dependency). Any insight?

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

Don't know what you guys talking about. I run the same setup/config and use latest udev.
I'm running udev 181-4 on kernel 2.6.18-238 (openvz) everything works for me.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

well, mine is on a 2.6.32 openvz, so that may be what's different. I previously was using a 2.6.18 openvz, but when I switched providers, this happened, and it's the first time I've seen it.

(note, I'm also running x64 where I previously ran 686, so that may have some cause as well).

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

Yes kernel version might be a problem here. As for running 64bit on VPS I don't recommend it.

Re: [SOLVED] Arch Linux 2011.08.19 - OpenVZ Template

I have 6 other boxes that all run 64-bit, one of which is my aur/ABS builder box & personal repo...build once, deploy everywhere. So, while I've run 64-bit on other VPS's before without issues, I'm not looking forward to dropping to 32-bit on this one JUST because this one thing is screwed up.

I'd rather find out why, and fix it.
