the ^CAborted by signal interrupt is because I ctrl c ended it because it wouldn't play the sound, it would just hang forever. It works with my Logitech Headset though. I'm running gnome 3 and the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers. Funny thing is I had HDMI running flawlessly through MATE a few days ago before the OS crashed and I had to reinstall. Any ideas?

so i installed the latest beta drivers and now pavucontrol is atleast showing that sound is coming out/trying to come out of the device. still no audible sound though.
i can't get aplay to get any sound out of my headset anymore though... but my headset is still working just fine in pulse. any ideas?
edit:::so I completely removed my de along with xorg, pulse, alsa and everything.. basicaly back to a square 1 arch install, and installed mate from there.... still having the same problem...
could it be a problem with the latest kernel update? it was working on an old install a few weeks ago on the older kernel. i don't remember going to all this trouble to get hdmi sound last time.

looks like it was the kernel, now i just need to figure out how to downgrade the kernel and stick with that... will that cause problems?
edit::::: so i need to downgrade to kernel version 3.1.9-2 , but i don't have it stored in my cache. what can i do to downgrade to that?

well, i got an old kernel, and got it running, but i couldn't for the life of me get the nvidia drivers working so it looks like i'll just be waiting for them to patch it.
