Pretty much everything works, BIOS is a tad buggy. sdcard reader needs a quirk to work, the nvidia card seems to sometimes play nice and others not so much. I am getting roughly 3hrs battery time with the handler.sh I have right now with some more work to go, but its now better than my windows battery life and getting better. Have to force aspm in grub.
Running on a minimal openbox install, though there are a few heavy apps I still use such as amarok.
edit:
for sdcard issues add this to modprobe.conf
options sdhci debug_quirks=0x40
firewire use to need this but now works for me without
options firewire-ohci quirks=0x10 debug=0xf

Could you please explain what that quirk is? I've seen more than one report of a non-working O2 card-reader, so I'm interested to know how to get these things to work.
@enochnotsocool: Look into bbswitch and bumblebee. The first allows you to turn off the nvidia card so it doesn't consume power, the second allows you to actually use it.

Dell Vostro 3750 with GeForce 525m.
Bumblebee works, but can't turn off the discrete card as far as I know. Basic touchpad functionality works, including tap-to-click, but there's no scrolling of any kind as it's not detected as a Synaptics device (mainly because it isn't one). Battery life is pretty bad due to being unable to turn off the discrete card, but keeping the laptop plugged in and connected to a mouse is just fine by me.

4 GB DDR2 Memory
500 GB Western Digital Hard Drive
Intel GMA4500 Graphics
Running with Xfce and it runs very nicely. GNOME 3 works on it pretty well too, but XFCE is most certainly snappier.
Note that there's no software brightness control. The desktop environment recognizes that the brightness is being changed, but I just think it's a hardware issue (at boot there is an issue with the _BCL component and Windows doesn't support software brightness control either). I think it has to do with the LED screen, because my grandfather's laptop (an Inspiron 1545 with similar specs, just a Pentium Dual Core 2.1 GHz instead of the Core 2) supports software brightness control.

Hi,
I use a netbook. Arch linux running fast and smooth with Gnome 3, I can see films mkv 720p very well, I have installed Star Craft 2 that run like my Window 7 Ice Extreme (well but at minimum effects due its a netbook), my light browser epiphany is faster than firefox (of course... i don't need all the firefox extensions and features) and the flashplugin works little aceptable (if you move the mouse during video reproduction, its slow down). I'm on only my day 6... so I have to much too learn and tweak. Boot time from bios to gnome login... forn now 30 seconds.

I use win for game and films... now that mediaplayer it's ok on arch... I can see the films on Arch from windows partition easily... and when I port my favourite games on Arch... I'll switch completely on Arch

Running Arch on a Thinkpad X220 here. Runs pretty fast and cool. Almost no noise when running on battery.
* Installed the Liquorix kernel from AUR.
* Installed tp_smapi from AUR to adjust battery charging thresholds. (dont charge more than 90%)
* Using the following kernel parameters: ro pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 quiet
* 800MHz powersave gorvenor when running on battery.
Battery life was poor before these changes, now it runs aprox. 5h with the 6-cell battery (bluetooth off, brightness 6/15).
Almost everything works, except for the microphone mute button (does not work at all).

The same problem occurs to me on my Thinkpad E325. The strange thing is this dmesg line which appears every time i press Fn+"microphone-mute".

I use a Thinkpad x60s. It's relatively old, but it's still working top-notch. I put a lot of upgrades on its hardware, I've increased its RAM from 512MB to 4GB (though only 3GB is usable for some reason), and replaced the small 40GB HDD with a 250GB. I have Windows 7 dual booting with Arch as well, but I use Arch more, and the only reason for me to boot into Windows is to probably play some games.
Everything works really well with my ThinkPad, I've been with a lot of distros before Arch (Ubuntu, Crunchbang, Fedora) and as far as I know everything works out of the box. I think it's the same with Arch too but there are a couple of things I had to do to open the "box", but it works nonetheless.
I still have some stuff to iron out such as CPU frequency scaling so that I can save on power when I'm on a battery.
Do not let your sense of morals prevent you from doing what is right.

FYI, I fixed this issue using this workaround: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 0#p1046190
This indicating led is still not working, cause thinkpad_acpi does not support changing the state of the micmute led. There seems to be a patch available tough. (https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/8/4/323)

Either it's my stupidity or this fix is not applicable on my E325. At least i don't have the problem with the led since there is no such led on this notebook.
